Maji na Ufanisi (MnU) is a swahili word which when translated literally means ‘Water and Development.’ We are a National Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) registered by the Kenya NGO Board and has equally been in operation in Kenya since 1998. Maji na Ufanisi was formed following the closure of Water Aid (UK) programmes in Kenya, in 1997.

For the last 14 years, MnU has focused on provision of sustainable solutions to challenges of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) to communities in urban informal settlements and the marginalised rural areas of Kenya. Maji na Ufanisi’s Philosophy and Approach is based on the knowledge that ultimately, real development is in people and their ability to take increasing control over the resources and decisions that directly affect their lives. This means that direct community participation is the most ideal way of undertaking positive change to the society.

Maji na Ufanisi has its head office located in Nairobi County and also has a coast regional office located in Mombasa County.
